The Shadow Boxing (1979) 88 Films Blu-ray Review

88 Films know it is always a good time for another Shaw Cinema Blu-ray release. This time it is from the legendary Lau Kar-leung, the man that brought us Eight Diagram Pole Fighter and The Spiritual Boxer.

The sequel to The Spiritual Boxer is 1979's The Shadow Boxing and it is no doubt one of his most enjoyable cinematic ride of his you will ever experience. And now that it is in HD it is even a better time to see it if you never have before.

Synopsis: The film follows a pair of very special undertakers who transport dead bodies by magical means. But their latest trip is proving tricky; it's bad enough that a strong-willed young woman has invited herself along for the ride but, even more awkwardly, one of the corpses might not actually be dead.

Lau Kar-leung bring us the first of it's kind, the kung fu horror-comedy. Hoping to capitalize on the success of The Spiritual Boxer, Lau had his two brothers Lau Kar-Wing and Gordon Liu act but also direct the fight scenes. The finished product is a fun and amazing martial arts ride with awesome action and great sets.

The film also stars Wong Yu (Mercenaries from Hong Kong), Cecilia Wong Hang-Sau (Stranger from Shaolin), Lee Hoi-Sang (Bruce and the Iron Finger), Norman Tsui Siu-Keung (Seeding of a Ghost), Wilson Tong Wai-Shing (When Taekwondo Strikes) and Wong Ching-Ho (Chinatown Kid).

88 Films have transferred The Shadow Boxing to Blu-ray in 1080p in 2.35:1 Aspect Ratio. This features an HD Transfer From the Original Negative. The Audio is the original 2.0 Mandarin Mono. And no worries if you don't speak Mandarin English Subtitles are provided.

The Shadow Boxing looks amazing in HD. There colors are bright and vibrant and the pictures is crisp and clean. There was no signs of digital artifacts. This is another tremendous looking transfer from 88 Films. But as we have seen in previous releases To Kill a Mastermind and  The Golden Lotus, 88 Films always adds some cool bonus features to their releases. Take a look at what is included.
