There is something about B Sci-fi horror films that I really get into. We have reviewed so many of those type of films on this site. And it is time for another trip down B Movie lane.
This time we are reviewing a new Blu-ray release from Full Moon Entertainment. A film that has the great Joseph Cotten in it. We are talking 1979's The Island of the Fishmen.
After the sinks in the Caribbean, a group of prisoners and a doctor find themselves on what seems to be a deserted island. They run across a couple, who invite them to stay at their house. While the prisoners try to plan an escape, the doctor does some investigating, and soon finds out just what the pair are really doing, and why the prisoners keep disappearing mysteriously.
Island of the Fishmen is a campy sci-fi film that hits just the right notes to make this a fun little ride. The film stays just ahead of the copywrite infringement so that producers can not be sued, but make no mistake this is H. G. Wells The Island of Dr. Moreau if his experiments were from the sea.
Island of the Fishmen has a 1080p presentation and is in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. There is also two versions of audio to choose from English Dolby Digital 5.1 and English Dolby Digital 2.0. This was my first time watching this fil and what an experience it was. This Blu-ray transfer looks amazing to say the least. The picture is crisp, colors are vibrant and there was not signs of damage to the print, at least as far as I could see.
As for bonus features included on this Blu-ray there is a bunch of trailers. Including the trailer for "The Island of the Fishmen" and Full Moon Feature releases; Naked girl murdered in the park, Love letters of a Portuguese Nin, Sexy Sisters, Voodoo Passion and Women in Cellblock 9.
I would have liked to see some additional bonus feature audio commentaries, documentaries something else would have made this release just that much better. But that is a minor complaint!
If you love Sci-fi B Movies as much as me The Island of the Fishmen is for you! Full Moon Features Island of the Fishmen is available on Blu-ray or DVD. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
