Mean Guns (1997) MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray Review

MVD Rewind Collection have been bringing physical media fans cult classics on deluxe Blu-ray! We have seen horror films like
The Dark, Cutting Class and Witchtrap to comedies The Last American Virgin, Men at Work and Ski Patrol we even saw the animated classic The Point!

When it comes to the Rewind Collection you know you are in for one amazing release. Well it is time for another film to get the deluxe rewind treatment. This time around it is the 1997 action film Mean Guns starring Ice T and Christopher Lambert!

The world's most dangerous criminals are summoned to a new prison on the eve before its grand opening by Moon (Ice-T, New Jack City), the ruthless leader of the world's most powerful crime syndicate. Chaos ensues when weapons and ammunition are passed around and the group, including Lou (Christopher Lambert, Highlander) begin their fight to survive. The last three men standing by midnight have been promised $10,000,000 in cash by Moon, who watches from his surveillance camera as gunfire and bodies fly. Rivalries develop between friends and the lines of loyalty are crossed as each criminal attempts to outwit, outrun and outlive the other in the action packed game of elimination.

Now While Mean Guns may not be the greatest action film ever produced it is a nice little escape film. I know this film is sadly underrated. So often we hear stories about what people think of a film and it kills our desire to see it. I am of the feeling see it for yourself. I will say Ice T and Christopher Lambert are very good in this film. There performances should be experienced.

MVD has transferred Mean Guns to Blu-ray in 1080p HD in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a LPCM 2.0 Stereo. Finally, there is the option for subtitles in English, Spanish and French.

This is the first time Mean Guns has found its way to Blu-ray. The pervious release was quite a few years ago and it was on DVD. So, without a doubt this is a definite upgrade. This transfer is crisp and clean. There are no signs of damage to this print and the audio is clear with no hiss or pops.

But a nice-looking HD transfer is not all this new Blu-ray release has going for it, not by a longshot. MVD has added some really great bonus features to this release. Take a look at what is included.

* Introduction by Director Albert Pyun (HD, 00:39)

I love the MVD Rewind Collection releases and this one is no different. In addition to the film, you can hear an insightful audio commentary by the director new interviews and I love artwork! So the mini-poster reversible Blu-ray insert and the retro slipcover that looks like something from a video store. Totally awesome!

I am never disappointed by a MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray or DVD release. Even if the film may not be the greatest in the world, The attention to detail MVD puts into these releases elevates the release to greater heights.

So, if you love a good action flick or are a fan of Ice T and Christopher Lambert why not try their collaboration Mean Guns. And the best way to experience it is on this MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today!
