Cutting Class (1983) MVD Rewind Collection 4k UltraHD/ Blu-ray Review

Brad Pitt is an Academy Award winning actor. He starred in such great films as A River Runs Through It (1992), Legends of the Fall (1994), Interview with the Vampire (1994), Seven (1995), 12 Monkeys (1995), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Moneyball (2011), and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).

Now an award-winning career has to start somewhere. And for Brad Pitt it starred in 1989 his first major film role was in the comedy slasher movie entitled Cutting Class. MVD Rewind Collection having given this cult film a deluxe 4K UltraHD Blu-ray combo release.

High school can be murder. Just ask Paula. Her overprotective father disappears during a weekend hunting trip. She's being romantically pursued by Brian Woods, a creepy classmate who recently graduated from a mental institution. Her jealous jock boyfriend Dwight is looking for any reason to release his juvenile rage. The lecherous school principle Mr. Dante is after her tight student body, and her friends and teachers are rapidly falling victim to a silent, shadowy mass-murder. As the body count rises, Paula begins to suspect that any one of her reckless suitors could be the twisted killer. But unless she learns his identity soon, her high school education will quickly come to a nasty end.

This film was not well received by critics. But because of home video rentals and cable airings, this film that could have been forgotten in time, has gained a cult status. Now it is good to note although there are some funny things in this film, don't forget at heart this is a slasher film. There is plenty of profanity, violence and some nudity. So, this is not for everyone. This is only for slasher fans. But Cutting Class is an off the wall film gem.

Along with a very young Brad Pitt and the legendary Roddy MacDowell, there are some other familiar faces in this film. Jill Schoelen (The Stepfather), Donovan Leitch (The Blob), Martin Mull (Clue, Roseanne) and Thomas Ligon (Paint Your Wagon).

The film has been transferred to 4k and features a
2018 4K Restoration (from the 35mm original camera negative) and presented in 2160P HD in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio in HDR. The soundtrack is an LPCM 2.0 Mono. There is finally the option for English and Spanish Subtitles.

This transfer is
absolutely stunning. The picture is crisp and clean with no signs of damage. The audio is clear with no hiss or pops. It is truly a remarkable looking copy of this film. But a remarkable looking copy of this film is not all that this release has going for it. Take a look at the bonus features included.
