Ski Patrol (1990) {MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray Review}

Who among us has never watched a Police Academy movie? Probably very few, if any.  The off the wall antics of a group of inept police academy students made for hilarious fun. After the trilogy was released the creators decided to take the fun to the snow covered slopes, with Ski Patrol.

The good folks at MVD Visual as part of their MVD Rewind Collection. Have decided to release this 90s cult comedy classic to deluxe edition Blu-ray and I couldn't be more excited.

The lease on the Snowy Peaks Lodge, a popular ski resort, is up for renewal and its owner Pops (Ray Walston, Fast Times at Ridgemont High) has no worries about signing a new lease. Despite his Ski Patrol, an out-of-control group of skiers led by Jerry (Roger Rose, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives) and Iceman (T.K. Carter, John Carpenter’s The Thing), the resort has an impeccable safety record. However, a devious land developer (Martin Mull, Clue) has other plans in mind for the resort and hires the talents of a young blonde named Lance (Corby Timbrook, The Glass Shield) to undermine the Ski Patrol’s efforts to keep the slopes safe.

Ski Patrol is off the wall crazy fun. But it is filled with the sexual comedy and the adult language as the Police Academy films. Now in addition to the stars seen in the above description there are many other great members to the cast including; Roger Rose (Rugrats), Yvette Nipar (Robocop The Series), George Lopez (The George Lopez Show), Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) and Leslie Jordan (Will and Grace).

Sadly on October 24th,2022 Leslie Jordon died in an automobile accident. This release really now is a tribute to his amazing talent on screen. Leslie really does steal the show as the 'larger the life' Murray.

The film has been transferred to Blu-ray in High Definition (1080p) in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is a LPCM 2.0 Stereo. There is also an option for English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The film transfer looks sharp and the neon colors pop right off the screen. Something you would expect from a 90s film. The audio is clear and clean, the singing of T. K. Carter really shines! But a great looking transfer is not all that is included on this Blu-ray. MVD added some very cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

* Trailers: Ski Patrol Theatrical Trailer (1:58) and the VHS Trailer (1:35) Than trailers for other MVD releases including Men At Work, Canadian Bacon, Vampire’s Kiss and Dirty Laundry.

* Reversible Artwork
I truly love seeing different artwork when I grab a release off the shelf so this is a welcomed addition.

* Collectible Mini Poster
These MVD Rewind mini-posters are so cool. They are perfect for framing.

Ski Patrol is a time capsule to the 1990s. The clothes, the colors, the comedy, the hair. The film is just so retro and so much fun. I am so glad that MVD decided to give this film a chance to shine on their Rewind Collection.
