In 1951 he was the executive producer of a film noir featuring a great cast. The film was entitled His Kind of Woman. It is hard to believe but this film is approaching its 75th anniversary. So, for an epic anniversary like that, it deserves a restoration and a Blu-ray release. Well, enter Warner Archive Collection to do just that.
Synopsis: Hard-luck gambler Dan Milner is in sudden luck. He'll get $50,000 to hang out at a posh Mexican resort - $5,000 now and the big payoff when the gangsters making the offer don't expect him to live long enough to collect. His Kind of Woman is a film noir fan's kind of movie: dark, sassy, surprise-filled. Robert Mitchum plays Milner, who finds the romantic stakes raised when he meets a self-proclaimed heiress (Jane Russell in the role that launched her friendship with Mitchum). The mystery is twisted, the sets are astonishing, the cast is large and talented. But what makes this cult favorite stand apart is Vincent Price's hilarious turn as a self-absorbed, gun-collecting Hollywood star. Mitchum gets the girl, but Price steals the movie.
When you think of film noirs His Kind of Woman would probably not be on anyone's list of the best! Probably because this isn't a pure film noir as the film sprinkles in come absurd comedy. Robert Mitchum plays the gambler to the tee and Jane Russell is stunning on film as always. But probably the most memorable performance in this film is by future horror icon Vincent Price. he literally steals ever scene he is in! This is a really fun little noir, definitely one to check out!
Warner Archive Collection has transferred His Kind of Woman to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Now as is well known Warner Archive never just throws a movie on a disc. They go through the process to restore and make these film look as good as possible. And they have done just that with His Kind of Woman. This is a 4K scan of the original camera negative. The picture is sharp, and the black and white image is bright and yet inky. This is another wonderful restoration from Warner Archive. But as with most Warner Archive Blu-rays that's not all! Take a look at the bonus features included.
