In the 1980s teen comedies were big business. Many of them have become classics over these years. Well MVD Rewind Collection is bringing to Blu-ray the 1982 teen comedy "The Last American Virgin".
Gary (Lawrence Monoson), David (Joe Rubbo) and Rick (Steve Antin) are three high schoolers with one thought on their minds to lose their virginity any way they can. Gary falls for transfer student Karen (Diane Franklin), who gets involved with Rick. She also tries to fix Gary up with her less attractive friend, Rose (Kimmy Robertson). But when Karen gets pregnant, Gary accompanies her through an abortion, and thinks that his concern has won her over, only to find she still pines for Rick.
Teen comedies in the 80s were filled with sexual content, nudity and profanity. Now viewing 80s teen comedies in this day and age, sometimes the storylines came seem a bit insensitive and even offensive. But The Last American Virgin is not your typical 80s teen movie like, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Outsiders, Can't Buy me Love or Fast times at Ridgemont High.
The Last American Virgin is filled with adult language, sexual content, drug use and nudity, but there is much more to this story. It is a story about love and loss! There is a lot of heart in the script here, but there is a lot of gratuitous raunchy content as well, so viewer beware. The music is the real standout here, we hear such iconic music from The Cars, KC and the Sunshine Band, Quincy Jones, Devo and many more.
MVD Visual under the division MVD Rewind Collection have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p in the original widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English 2.0 DTS-HD Master Audio. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This MGM HD Master looks and sounds nice. There is minor specs in the picture, but nothing that will take away from the viewing experience. The audio is clear without any signs of hiss or pops. But a nice looking transfer is not all that is included here. MVD went above and beyond for this release and added some very nice bonus features. Take a look at what is included on this release.
