Mind Games

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

A few years ago MVD Entertainment Group started a new label. That was MVD Rewind Collection. The new Blu-ray releases would be retro movie lovers complete with retro slipcovers. We got the extreme pleasure to review some of these. The best releases are My Samurai, Double Dragon, and The Return of Swamp Thing.

Now it's time for some new Rewind releases this the first one we look at this month. It is 1989 horror thriller entitled Mind Games. This cult film finally gets the release that fans have been wanting. Let's take a look at this release.

Dana and Rita Lund feel trapped in what has become a very unpleasant marriage. As a way to try to save their relationship. They decide to take their 10-year-old son Kevin and travel through northern California in an RV. While traveling Kevin meets hitchhiker Eric who just happens to be a psychology student. The new friendship seems so perfect. It seems too good to be true.

In reality, Eric meeting the Lund family was more than just coincidence. He has a sinister plot to destroy the family through deceit and emotional manipulation. will his perverse Mind Games destroy the family? You'll have to see the film to find out.

The story is good little 80's horror thriller. There is some very
risqué scenes in the film that seem very off in this generation. There is a small bit of profanity, a little violence, and sexual content, but no nudity. The screenplay by Kenneth Dorward was a well-written piece. Direction by Bob Yari is good as well.

Surprisingly the whole starring cast is four people, Edward Albert as the dad, Shawn Weatherly as the mom and Matt Norero as the son and the stand-out is Maxwell Caulfield as Eric. But everyone does a great job in their roles.

The film has been transferred in widescreen format and in 1.78:1 aspect ratio and in 2.0 audio. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. The picture looks and sounds stunning. But that is not all the Blu-ray release has great bonus features as well.
