Twice Told Tales KL Studio Classics Bluray Cover
When you say the name Vincent Price most people think horror. But Vincent Price started his career in comedies, dramas and film noirs. Price appeared on stage, television, and radio, and in more than 100 films during his amazing career. Price was presented with two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, one for motion pictures and one for television.

As Vincent Price got later in his career he embraced the horror films and even relished in the campiness of them. Kino Lorber has been releasing some of those later campy Price classics including, The Tomb of Ligeia, Theater of Blood, Dr. Phibes Double Feature. Now it's time for another Vince Price film to shine of Blu-ray thanks to KL Studio Classics. We are talking about 1963's Twice Told Tales.

The 2 hour feature film is an anthology featuring not 1 not 2 but 3 Nathaniel Hawthorne stories. Each film stars Vincent Price in different roles. Let's take a look at the stories included in this move.

Dr. Heidegger's Experiment:  A doctor who claims to have been sent water from the Fountain of Youth. The doctor and his friend try it and are restored back to their youths. But they don't stop their.

Rappaccini's Daughter: A medical researcher grows a garden of poisonous plants. His daughter to tend the plants, and she becomes resistant to the poisons, but becomes poisonous to others.

The House of the Seven Gables: An ancient curse has followed a family that live for power and fight because of their greed. These things lead to an ultimate judgement.

Along with starring in these stories Vincent Price also serves as narrator. He is joined by a pretty great supporting cast including, Sebastian Cabot (Family Affair), Brett Halsey (Return of the fly), Beverly Garland (The Alligator People), Richard Denning (Mr. and Mrs. North) and Joyce Taylor (Atlantis the Lost Continent).

Sidney Salkow directed this film and I think it has a very "Hammer Horror" feel to it. Now whether he meant it to be that or not I am not sure. Even though this film was produced by Admiral Pictures and distributed by United Artists / MGM.

The film has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is in 1.66
:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD 2.0. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. When I compare this new Blu-ray release for a previous release I own this transfer looks so awesome. The picture is crisp. The colors are rich and the audio is clear.

Now Kino Lorber added some very cool bonus features to this release. Let's take a look at what is included on this Blu-ray.

* Audio Commentary by Film Historians Richard Harland Smith and Perry Martin

* "Trailers From Hell" with Mick Garris

* Theatrical Trailer

I have always enjoyed a good Vincent Price film. He truly is my favorite horror film star. With the great insightful audio commentary and the special featurette from Mick Garris. This new Blu-ray of Twice Told Tales is so good I can not recommend it enough.
