The legendary Roger Corman directed eight of Edgar Allan Poe adaptions during his career. And his favorite actor to work with was Vincent Price. Proof of that was 7 of the adaptions were Price led.

In 1964 Vincent Price and Roger Corman joined forced for one final time with one of the better adaptions, The Tomb of Ligeia.  Now Kino Lorber Studio Classics have given this B horror classic a blu-ray release this film s richly deserves.

The film follows the completely heart broken Verden Fell (Vincent Price) who is trying to learn to live life after the death of his wife. He soon falls in love and marries the Lady Rowena Trevanion (Elizabeth Shepherd). But this isn't a happily ever after. Verden's late wife's spirit seems to hang over the abode that Fell shares with his new bride. As Lady Rowena searches for answers as to the horrible feelings she is having she soon learns that Fell's dead wife is closer than she could ever have imagined.

Most Corman Price collaborartions have a campy comical feel to them. What makes the Tomb of Ligeia stand out from all the others is this one is not played for laughs. This one is a true tale of terror and it really works. When you want a true Poe tale of terror this one will do the trick.

Vincent Price is chillingly good in the lead role and Elizabeth Shephard is equally as good in a duel role. I love Roger Corman film and this one is right up there as one of my favorites that he did.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics have transferred this film in 1080p and in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, with a DTS-HD 2.0 mono track. There is also an option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. When examining this transfer I must say it is something special. There is no signs of damage to the picture and there is no hiss or pops in the audio. It looks great on Blu-ray.

Now a remarkable looking copy of this film is enough for me to recommend this Blu-ray. But Kino Lorber went above and beyond and added some great bonus features to this Blu-ray. Take a look at what is included on this release.

* Audio commentary by film critic Tim Lucas (A brand new recording)
* Audio commentary by director/producer Roger Corman
* Audio commentary by actress Elizabeth Shepherd
* Trailers From Hell with Joe Dante
* Theatrical trailer
* Limited edition slipcover

All three commentaries are very entertaining bringing something special to the viewer. Joe Dante shares some great information about Elizabeth Shepherd and he time in the British show The Avengers.These bonus features make this a must own for Price film fans.

So if you love Vincent Price or Edgard Allen Poe movies as much as I do, The Tomb of Ligeia is one Blu-ray that is an absolute must add to your collection. Head over to Amazon.com and get your copy today.
