As I am writing this tribute to John Candy, I am watching Canadian Bacon for the first time. It's hard to believe we saw another anniversary of John Candy's death. I was just a kid when John Candy in his prime, so needless to say I was not able to see some of his films. So as an adult now I am trying to see some of this comedic gems of the Late John Candy.
Born John Franklin Candy on October 31, 1950 in Newmarket, Ontario. Candy studied at Neil McNeil Catholic High School, later enrolled in the Centennial Community College to study journalism, and went to McMaster University for higher education.
Instead of going into journalism he was interested in performing, so guest starred on a Canadian childrens' television series, Cucumber. He would continue to make appearances on many shows until SCTV Second City Television came along. Candy shined so much on SCTV that it wan't long till Hollywood came calling and He would go on to star in many films.
As of now I have seen quite a few of his films, Cool Running, Spaceballs, The Great Outdoors, Brewster's Millions, Uncle Buck, I have even reviewed a couple including, Planes, Trains and Automobiles and Who's Harry Crumb?
In 1994, while on a break from production of the film Wagons East! in Durango City, Mexico, Some time after midnight, on March 4, 1994,
Candy was found dead from a unproven heart attack, because no autopsy was performed. He was only 43 years old.
My mind wonders what kind of amazing films John Candy would have put to film if his life wouldn't have been cut short. It is truly sad. But we can relive his comedy genius in the many films he did give to the world! Rest In Peace John Candy! You are a legend!
