There have been many coming-of-age stories on film throughout the history of cinema. Many of which try too hard to feel real. But not so much for 2023's Are You There God? It's me, Margaret. This coming-of-age story is a raw, real look at home, moving from the only home you know can really affect a young person.
I for one, know this extremely well as my dad's business moved us all over the country many times growing up. That is why watching "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret."really struck a chord with me. Now this film has come to 4K UltraHD!
Synopsis: 11-year-old Margaret (Abby Ryder Fortson) is uprooted from her life in New York City to the suburbs of New Jersey, going through the tumultuous throes of puberty with new friends in a new school. She relies on her mom (Rachel McAdams), who is also adjusting to life outside the city, and her loving grandmother (Kathy Bates). A timeless coming-of-age story, Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret sparkles with humor while exploring life's biggest questions.
Judy Blume's wonderful book comes to life in this film. The film boasts a wonderful script and tremendous performances by Rachel McAdams (Doctor Strange), Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man) and the legendary Kathy Bates (Misery). While watching this film, you don't feel like your wathing a movie; it's like watching life unfold before your very eyes. It's tremendous!
Lionsgate has transferred this film to 4K in 2160p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio options are English Dolby Atmos; Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital; French 5.1 Dolby Digital; English Descriptive Audio. There is also the option for subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
The film's 4k transfer is clean and brings such detail to this picture. Seeing this film in 4k really enhances the set design of the 70s decor with real warmth. It makes you long for the simpler times of the 70s.
