Sami Raimi's 1981 film The Evil Dead was, for years, a cult classic. Over the years, I think it has leveled up to just a straight horror classic. In 2013, a new Evil Dead film was released; fans were hoping to see a reunion of Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, but alas, that did not happen. What we got was a hard reboot.It has been over 10 years since this film was released in theaters and now Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is releasing this reboot Evil Dead on Blu-ray with not one, but two cuts of the film.
Synopsis: Five friends have found the mysterious and fiercely powerful Book of the Dead which releases a violent demon on a bloodthirsty quest to possess them all.
This reboot of Evil Dead has a great storyline. One girl is trying to detox from a drug addiction, so the others think what is going on is all in her mind. Jane Kevy puts in a wonderful performance as Mia (the drug addict). Plus the gore is out of this world. So gore hounds are going to love this film for that. But, let's be honest, any film that is a reboot is going to pale in comparison to the original. Especially when the original is so beloved.
Sony has transferred Evil Dead to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There is also the option for English and French subtitles.
This release has two Blu-ray discs. One disc is the theatrical version running 91 minutes. The other disc is the unrated version, which is 97 minutes long. Then there is a bunch of bonus features included on this release as well!

With two versions of the film and loads of featurettes. Gory Horror film fans are going to love Evil Dead on Blu-ray. But if you are expecting a film like the original franchise, I think you will be disappointed. But ultimately the choice is yours.
