There are some films in the 80s that are classics and then there are 80s films that over the years became a cult classic! One of those cult classic 80s films is The Legend of Billie Jean. Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment is this 80s film a retro release, that it truly deserves.
Binx and Billie Jean Davy brother and sister who enjoy riding his motor scooter, going swimming and hanging out with friends. But that all changes one day when local rich kid Hubie Pyatt steals and wrecks the scooter. Billie Jean demands the $608 it costs to fix it. When Mr. Pyatt tries to make an indecent proposal to Billie Jean she gets away from his grasp. Than Binx shoots Mr. Pyatt by accident. Now he and Billie Jean and Ophelia and Putter flee town become fugitives and legends along the way.
This is a type of film that could and maybe should have been made in this generation now that there is the #MeToo movement! It would be praised for the character Billie Jean standing up in the face of harassment!
The cast is amazing including a young Christian Slater as Binx, Yaredly Smith, Martha Gehman, Barry Tubb, Dean Stockwell, Than there is Billie Jean herself, Helen Slater. She had just the previous year played the iconic role of Supergirl. While in Billie Jean Helen Slater is a hero without the tights and the superpowers.
The chase scene through the mall was heart-pounding, the story is compelling and the music is rocking. The film is just pure 80s awesomeness! There is a some profanity and sexual content, so this film is not for the kids. However, I think anyone who loved the 80s will be totally stoked for this film.
On this blu-ray release the film is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen format and in Dolby digital audio. It looks and sound pretty stunning when you think this film is over 30 years old! Now if having this film in HD wasn't enough, on this blu-ray we are treated to an audio commentary with the stars Helen Slater and Yeardley Smith.
The film is enough to make this a must purchase for me. But what makes this even more of an must add is the retro part. A slipcover that looks like an old VHS tape. This looks absolutely amazing on the shelf.
I can not tell you how much I love what Mill Creek Entertainment is doing with these Retro releases. For a small kid of the late 80s who remembered going to the local video stores and renting VHS tapes this is nostalgia personified.
So if you love 80s films as much as I do. This Retro VHS version blu-ray of The Legend of Billie Jean is a must own! Head over to www.Millcreekent.com today.
