The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Blu-ray Review | Rick & Michonne's Epic Return

When The Walking Dead first debuted on Halloween night 2010, I don't think anyone would have ever dreamed 16 years later that a whole universe would have come to fruition. Complete with many spinoffs. But here we are.

The Walking Dead would not be the show it is without Rick Grimes and who isn't a fan of the bad girl that is Michonne. But these two would find they have much more in common than just killing walkers. These two would fall in love. And then be separated.

These two return for a love story entitled The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. This short series has now been released on Blu-ray thanks to the good folks at Acorn Media International.

Synopsis: Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) are thrown into another world, built on a war against the dead...and ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other, and who they were, in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they too are The Walking Dead?

This series is only 6 episodes long, but the quality of the episodes are out of this world. There was no expense spared on this series. The world created for Rick and Michonne to 'play' in is just spectacular. The special effects are great and the story track Rick and Michonne to a satisfying conclusion.

This 6 episode series have been transferred to 2 Blu-ray discs in 1080p and are presented in 2.00:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is a DTS-HD Master Audio track. There is also subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

These Blu-ray transfers are as crisp and as clean as any I have seen. There is no digital artifacts of audio anomolies. Streaming this series will never be able to compare to the quality found on these Blu-ray discs. 

Now as for bonus features, admittedly there is not as much as I had hoped for. There is just two short featurettes The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live Preview and Show Me More: The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. 

Binge watching this series is like watching one epic zombie apocalypse movie. It just flows perfectly. This Blu-ray makes a perfect companion piece to the previously released The Walking Dead: Dead City and The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixion Blu-rays.
