Now the latest Blu-ray releases go from one extreme to the other. We are talking about a horror comedy to an exploitation film both from Asia. Let's take a look at these films and what is included on these Blu-rays.
The Haunted Cop Shop (1987) Set in a police station built atop a former wartime site once occupied by Japanese soldiers, the film unleashes a wave of restless spirits who return to haunt the living. When a group of bumbling, underachieving cops find themselves assigned to the precinct, they must confront increasingly bizarre and dangerous paranormal encounters. As the hauntings escalate, it becomes clear that surviving the night will require more than courage--it will take luck, ingenuity, and a willingness to embrace the absurd.

Sex and the Emperor (1994) Told through the perspective of Li, a palace servant who secretly retains his manhood despite posing as a eunuch, the story unfolds as he becomes an indispensable tool of the emperor's whims. Whether aiding in voyeuristic indulgences, navigating the treacherous politics of concubines and rivals, or executing covert missions beyond the palace walls, Li finds himself caught between survival and complicity in a world ruled by unchecked authority. As alliances shift and tensions rise, the film reveals a court driven as much by lust and manipulation as by power and control

88 Films has restored both of these films in 2k from the original camera negative and remastered the original Cantonese language track. Sex and the Emperor also includes an English-dubbed track. The result is a simply stunning-looking picture quality.
The bonus features are nice. Maybe not as much as some might hope for, but still a good selection of bonuses. Probably the best bonus is the O-ring slipcase feature, with spectacular artwork by Season Longmore.
If you love foreign cinema, no doubt one of these, if not both, will be on your list to add to your home video library. You can head over to MVD Shop and pre-order your copy of The Haunted Cop Shop or Sex and the Emperor.
Both of these Blu-rays will be released on October 6th 2026.
