Nightmare J-Horror film Audition arrives in 4K UltraHD

No culture knows how to make nightmare horror films like that of the Japanese filmmakers. Takashi Miike is a prolific filmmaker. He has made over 100 films during his career. But the film that helped him burst on the mainstream was the film Audition.

Since that he would achieve more noteriaty with such films as Ichii the Killer and 13 Assassins. But there is still no film he has ever made that is infecting as that of the terrifying "Audition". Arrow Video have restored and released this horror film on 4K for the first time ever!

Synopsis: When recent widower Shigeharu Aoyama (Ryo Ishibashi, American Yakuza) is advised by his son to find a new wife, he seeks the advice of a colleague having been out of the dating scene for many years. The two men decide to take advantage of their position working at a film company to stage an audition to find the perfect partner. Interviewing a series of women, Shigeharu soon becomes enchanted by Asami (Eihi Shiina), a quiet, 24-year-old woman, who is immediately responsive to his charms. However, events quickly take a very dark and twisted turn as we find that Asami isn't what she seems to be...

In all honesty I had never scene this film before this release. I had heard of it and how gut-wrenching but never saw it. So this was my first time experiencing this film. And I truly have no words to express how this film made me feel. It was a complete roller coaster. And the special effects used in the horror scenes are so believable you would not believe it is a movie. The film is so terrifying that it stays with you long after the credits roll.

Arrow Video have transferred Audition to 4K (2160p) UHD Blu-ray™ presentation in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible). The audio track is a newly restored original lossless Japanese stereo and 4.0 audio, plus optional DTS-HD MA 5.1 surround audio. Finally there is the option for English subtitles.

This is not just any transfer this transfer comes from a brand new 4K restoration from the original Super 16mm camera negative by Arrow Films approved by director of photography Hideo Yamamoto. I have never seen this film before, so I have nothing to compare it to. But I can say this was a extremely beautiful looking copy of the film. Crisp and clean the colors were bright and vibrant there is no signs of damage that I could see. This was a wonderfully terrifying viewing experience.

Now in addition to a great looking 4k restoration. Arrow Video added a boatload of bonus features to make this release something very special. Take a look at what is included.
