If there is one thing the British know how to do, it is Sci-fi adventure. I grew up watching those British sci-fi adventure shows like The Avengers, Space 1999, and yes, of course, Doctor Who. But their imagination was not just for television series. It was for movies as well!
On September 12, 1963 Unearthly Strangers came to theaters. Loved by critics at the time. Kino Lorber is giving American audiences a chance to witness this British sci-fi film in HD with their Blu-ray release.
Synopsis: Dr. Mark Davidson (John Neville) is a scientist engaged in an experimental project like no other. TP91 is a secret and highly complex formula which will enable man to project himself through time and space, but when Dr. Munro (Warren Mitchell, Jabberwocky) succeeds in solving the first part of it he is found dead before he can pass on the invaluable result. His successor (Neville) quickly senses that both he and his new wife (Gabriella Licudi, Casino Royale) are now in grave danger.
One thing we come to expect with sci-fi films is lots of special effects, yet here there are none. The film relies on its story and characters. Something that sadly most filmmakers have forgotten about in this generation. Director John Krish delivers a compelling film that keeps you invested even without the typical sci-fi effects.
Kino Lorber has transferred Unearthly Strangers to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
There is no information given about restorations, so my thoughts are there was apparently none done for thi release. But no worries, this Blu-ray transfer is surprisingly amazing. The black and white picture is crisp and clean with no signs of damage and the audio track is clear with no hiss or pops.
In addition to a nice HD transfer of Unearthly Stranger. Kino Lorber added some nice bonus features. Take a look at what has been included on this release.
Bonus Features:
* NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Gary Gerani
* NEW Audio Commentary by Entertainment Journalists/Authors Bryan Reesman and Max Evry
* Theatrical Trailer
With not one but two new audio commentaries, this is a lot of cool information given here. But in addition to that. There are two sets of artwork. There is the Blu-ray insert and the Blu-ray slipcover. This is extremely cool as I love artwork.
So if you love British sci-fi, I highly recommend Unearthly Strangers on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. Head over to Kino Lorber or Amazon and order your copy of this Blu-ray today.
Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Unearthly Strangers receives......
