Robert Louis Stevenson was a prolific novelist. His stories have been brought to the big screen time after time. In 1894 he wrote a novella entitled "The Ebb Tide" with his stepson Lloyd Osbourne. And it was published the year Stevenson died.
In 1947, this novella was brought to the big screen with a nice little cast. The film was entitled Adventure Island. Now Shoreline Entertainment and LeoMark Studios have brought this adaptation, entitled Adventure Island to Blu-ray. But what do the transfer and bonus features of this release look like? Let's find out together.
Synopsis: Stranded on a remote South Seas island, a group of travelers encounters a tyrannical self-made ruler, plunging them into a tale of suspense, mystery, and romance. Based on Robert Louis Stevenson's novel "The Ebb Tide,".
Adventure Island is an engaging and exciting story, that features great performances by Rory Calhoun, Rhonda Fleming, and Paul Kelly. Plus the tropical setting really adds to the wonderful appeal of this film.
Adventure Island has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in its original full-screen format. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0 track. There are no English subtitles or this release, so don't look for them.
In all honesty, the picture quality leaves a lot to be desired here. The colors are very washed out and the picture itself is soft and blurry at times. And as we all know, I love bonus features. Well, this disc for me totally disappoints, in more ways than one. Not only are there no bonus features. There is not even a Blu-ray menu. Pop the disc in, and it starts playing. Totally disappointing to me.
If you love low-budget adventure films, Adventure Island might be one you'll want to add to your home video library. Just don't expect too much on this Blu-ray. Head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today.
Out of 4 film reels (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Adventure Island receives......
