You would be hard-pressed to find a more iconic romantic cinematic team than that of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. During their time together, they made cinematic magic in 10 feature films. After their film debut in 1933 in Flying Down to Rio audiences were clamoring for more.
After this successful debut in 1934, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers would return to the Silver Screen for another musical adventure. This time, the adventure would be entitled The Gay Divorcee. Warner Archive Collection has chosen to restore and release this classic on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: Mimi Glossip (Ginger Rogers) thinks Guy Holden (Fred Astaire), who has been flirting with her, is the co-respondent her lawyer has hired to expedite her divorce.
This is just the second time Roger and Astaire were together, and yet the chemistry is undeniable. The film is witty and romantic. A perfect mix makes a wonderful little film for the whole family. No wonder this film was nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture.
The Warner Archive has transferred The Gay Divorcee to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The Audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Warner Archive Collection has performed a 4K scan of the original nitrate camera negative. I must say that The Gay Divorcee really looks great. The glorious black and white picture benefits so much from this new 4k scan. The picture is crisp and clean with no signs of damage that I witnessed while screening this film. In addition to a wonderful-looking film transfer, Warner Archive added some great bonus features to this disc as well. Take a look at what has been included.
