The Great Smokey Roadblock: Blu-ray Review

Henry Fonda is known for his perfromances in such film classics as Jezebel (1938), Jesse James (1939), Young Mr. Lincoln (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), The Ox-Bow Incident (1943), My Darling Clementine (1946) and 12 Angry Men (1957).

It wasn't until later in his career that he won his only Academy Award for his film film performance in On Golden Pond. In 1977 we wanted to have one last run in the film The Great Smokey Roadblock. No MGM Home Entertainment have released this film on Blu-ray. 

Synopsis: Put the pedal to the metal and hang on tight, 'cause that high-ballin' bandit is rollin' tonight! Henry Fonda shines as worn-out trucker Elegant John, whose 18-wheeler is repossessed just months before his retirement. Determined not to go out quietly, he risks everything on one last big haul before saying goodbye. 

The Great Smokey Roadblock is a fun little adventure. The a lot of drama and heart. Henry Fonda shows even at his advanced age he can still act with the besr of them. And the supporting cast is tremendous. Lead by Robert Englund (before he would become the horror icon Freddy Kruger), Eileen Brennan, Susan Sarandon, and Austin Pendleton.

MGM have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now it would be easy just to throw a copy of this film on the Blu-ray disc and leave it be. But MGM actually restored this film. This film has been restored using the highest quality available source material. And what a restoration it is! The picture is crisp and clean and the colors are bright and vibrant. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. 

Now as for bonus feature... it is not to spectacular. There is a behind the scenes photo gallery and a trailer. Tha is a bit disappointing. I would have liked to see a retrospective or audio commentary. Something else would have been nice.
