5 years after his passing PBS released a 4-part documentary by Kevin Burns, Sarah Burns and David McMahon about 'The Greatest' Muhammad Ali. Now PBS have released this magnificent documentary series on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: Muhammad Ali brings to life one of the best-known and most indelible figures of the 20th Century, a three-time heavyweight boxing champion who captivated millions of fans throughout the world with his mesmerizing combination of speed, grace, and power in the ring, and charm and playful boasting outside of it.
This 4-part Documentary series runs 450 minutes, but you would never know it. It is so perfectly crafted that when you watch it the time flies by. You get so engrossed with the story of Ali's life you don't realize the time frame. These four parts are labeled as Rounds. Brilliant.
* Round One: The Greatest (1942-1964)
* Round Two: What's My Name (1964- 1970)
* Round Three: The Rivalry (1970-1974)
* Round Four: The Spell Remains (1974-2016)
Each of these episodes receive its own Blu-ray disc. These films have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and are presented in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The options for audio tracks include an English Dolby Digital 5.1 and a Spanish 2.0 track. There is also the option for English and Spanish subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Each of these movies are crisp and clean on Blu-ray. As for bonus features sadly, there are none. I am sure there were interviews segments that didn't make the final cut of these films. Seeing those would have been nice. But this bare bones Blu-ray set still has over 7 hours of documentary and that is well worth picking up if you are a fan of Boxing or Muhammad Ali.
