Blu-ray Review: .Com For Murder (2001)

Nico Mastoraski is a Greek filmmaker probably best known for his 1975 cult classics Island of Death. Arrow Video recently released Nico's 80s cult classic Nightmare at Noon. Well, now it is time for another Nico horror film to shine on Blu-ray.

In 2001 Nico Mastoraski tried his hands at trying to become the new king of suspense, taking the crown from Alfred Hitchcock .com for Murder. Arrow Video is now giving this film a chance to shine on Blu-ray.

Sondra Brummel (Nastassja Kinski, Cat People) is a young woman confined to a wheelchair following a skiing accident. Finding herself bored she decides to have a bit of fun on an internet dating site with her sister Misty (Nicollette Sheridan, The Sure Thing) while her architect boyfriend Ben (Roger Daltrey, The Legacy) leaves her alone for the weekend in the high-tech intelligent mansion he has built for them. While online they meet some one with the handle “Werther” who they suspect to be a killer.

Nico Directed the film and co-wrote the screen play with Phill Marr. When watching this film you can see the influence of Hitchcock all over this film. Whether it's Psycho, Rear Window or Frenzy. Or other Hitchcock classics, .com for murder is trying hard to be a Hitchcock film.

Now for me there was no greater director than Hitchcock. I can understand wanting to pattern direction after the great director. Nico's ".com For Murder" has some good exciting moments. The acting is good, but somehow the story is just so predictable it kind of lacks the suspenseful part, as I could predict what was going to happen almost from the beginning.

Now for the warnings this film is for adults only as their is violence, profanity and nudity. Also The Film contains sequences of flashing lights which may affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.

Arrow Video has transferred .com for murder in High Definition 1080p and presented in widescreen format. For the audio track there is the option for the original 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio or the lossless stereo audio. Finally there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing.

The film's transfer is sharp and the colors are bright and vibrant. But a lot of the film is shot in low resolution video and so these shots don't look as spectacular in HD. Now for bonus features Arrow Video added some cool ones. Take a look at what is included.

* The Making of .com for Murder, a featurette on the making of the film

* .com for Murder: The Unknown Story, a new featurette in which producer-director Nico Mastorakis revisits the production

* Archive interviews with Roger Daltrey and Huey Lewis

* Original trailer

* Image gallery

* Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys

* FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Illustrated collector's booklet featuring new writing on the film by David Flint

For me the bonus features are the star of this release. I really enjoyed the making of documentary and the unknown story featurette. Also the archival interviews are nice to see as well.
