Nightmare at Noon (1988) {Arrow Video Blu-ray Review}

Arrow Video Blu-ray of Nightmare At Noon
Nico Mastorakis is a Greek filmmaker who might be best known for his film Island of Death. Over the last couple of years Arrow Video have been releasing a Blu-ray of one of Nico's films such as BloodtideBloodstone and Death has Blue eyes.

Now it is time for another Nico film to shine on Blu-ray thanks to the good folks at Arrow Video. This time is the 1988 Sci-fi horror film starring George Kennedy, Nightmare at Noon. Produced by Omega Entertainment itr may also be known by the title Death Street USA.

When scientists poison the water supply of a small town of Canyonland. The poison instead of wiping out the townspeople, it turns the residents into homicidal maniacs who kill each other and anybody who enters into the town. Now two tourists (Wings Hauser, Bo Hopkins) and a sheriff (George Kennedy, Cool Hand Luke, The Naked Gun) fight the townsfolk to try to survive.

Nightmare at Noon is a simple premise. The acting is pretty good, but George Kennedy is great in this film as he is in everything he did. However when you watch the trailer your thinking you are in fights, guns, explosions and loads of action. However, the actual film isn't as quite the non-stop action fest depicted in the trailer.

The film is an entertaining one, but the pacing of the film leave a lot to be desired. There is a lot of scenes that are put in mostly horseback riding scenes that slow the film up so much. But there still is a lot to love about this film. The film is rated R so there is a good amount of profanity and violence so viewer beware.

This 80s cult classic has been
 restored in 2K from the original negative and transferred in 11080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio there is two options a English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and English 2.0 LPCM. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and option of Greek subtitles.

This new restoration really does look nice.
The level of detail in thie restoration is pretty impressive, the only downside I might say is the flesh tones at times seem a bit unnatural in spots, but other than that it is a good looking restoration. But as with all Arrow Video Blu-ray release a nice restoration is not all that is included here. There is a nice amount of bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

* The Films of Nico Mastorakis: Nightmare at Noon - The third of a 4 part featurette on the making of the film with commentary from director Nico Mastorakis
