The war in Korea was a tumultuous and controversial time in our country. No one wanted to go to war. Korea was once a place where childish laughter ruled the streets, but in the summer of 1950 that all changed.
Acclaimed director John Ford brought us a
look at how Korea became embroiled in Cold War politics; tearing the
country apart along Communist and Democratic lines. Now we all can relive his amazing documentary thanks to the new release from Alpha Video.
This John Ford documentary was financed by the Navy. Ford brings us on the front lines with footage from the
battlefront and scenes of daily life in Korea and on military bases. We also see the tragedy of refugees trying to survive in the midst of all out war.
John Ford's remarkable direction is an amazing thing to witness. You can see his handy work in this production that made him a legend in film making! And while not credited in the film many believe the narrators of this film are John Ireland Irving Pichel and George O'Brien.
This DVD release features this color John Ford documentary (the only color documentary of the Korean war I know of), but beyond that Alpha Video gives us a bonus feature. They add a 30 minute documentary "Crusade in the Pacific War in Korea".
While both of these films do have some damage to the film print. I feel these look and sound pretty good, when you think these films are almost 70 years olds. Has it really been that many years since the Korean War? WOW!
I think for history buff this is a very nice little double feature. So if your a fan of John Ford films or documentaries, this would make a nice addition to your collection. You can get a copy of this DVD by going to Oldies.com.
