Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories were a phenomenon. People loved when a new story came out. So when motion pictures became a thing it was only natural that film producers would want to capitalize on the popularity.

In 1920

Well, now the good folks at Alpha Video has released three of those films on this DVD. Let's take a look at the films included in this collection.

Our Rating System:
**** = Don’t Miss it!
*** = Worth a look.
** = An OK way to spend 30 minutes.

The Man with the Twisted Lip (1921): Holmes and Watson must uncover the shocking connection between a respectable businessman and a disfigured beggar. ***

The Devil's Foot (1921): The death of a woman and the ensuing madness of her two brothers is attributed to Satanic influence, but Holmes suspects there is a more earthly cause. ***

The films in this collection run around 30 minutes a piece. The relatively unknown character actor Eille Norwood was cast as the great detective and does a remarkable job, he puts everything he has into this role.

As for the DVD these three silent are presented in their original full screen format. The films are not in pristine condition there is damage to the prints. But you have to understand these films are almost 100 years old. To think they have even survive at all is amazing.
