DVD Review: The Goat

Some film fans don't want to see a foreign film because they have to read subtitles. And I do get that. It can take you a bit out of the story. But not experiencing these foreign language films, you can miss an amazing piece of cinema.

Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Visual have released a foreign film for all regions. This film is entitled The Goat. Now, with that kind of title, you might think this is a kid's film. But you would be wrong.

Synopsis: A child bride runs. A desert hunts her. Guided by her mother's voice through her pet goat, 12 year-old Hadiya Embarks on a relentless journey to find her father and battle for her village's precious water resources.

The film boasts of two amazing actors in the cast. Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning actress Mira Sorvino and Genie Award Nominee John Savage. This harrowing adventure really keeps you invested, even if the idea of a mother's voice speaking through a goat may seem a bit strange. This is a film with a deeper message. It is definitely worth checking out.

MVD has transferred The Goat to DVD and is presented in widescreen format. The audio track is an Arabic language Dolby Digital 2.0. There is English subtitles so that you can follow the story.

The DVD transfer is really crisp and clean. There were no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. The only thing that would have made this release better was if there had been an English dub. Then you would really focus on the film. But that is a minor complaint.

Bonus Features:
* Slideshow
* Trailer

In all honesty, the bonus features could have been a little better. Maybe an interview or an audio commentary. But the main focus is to have a nice-looking copy of the film. And this DVD delivers that.

So if you love films that have a deeper meaning. Or if you want to experience a foreign language film that is just different but very good. Head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy of The Goat. You may be surprised how much you enjoyed it.
