Di'Anno: Iron Maiden's Lost Singer Blu-ray Review – Paul Di'Anno's Final Journey

If you were into heavy metal music you no doubt listened to bands like Metallica, Slayer, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden had 5 official singers during their run. But the first one singer to record a studio album was Paul Di'Anno.

Paul Di'Anno left the group because of personal and behavior factors. After his time with Iron Maiden he would continue his career in solo and group performances. Before it all fell apart. A couple of fans of Iron maiden launched a crowdfunding campaign to help Paul Di'Anno, who was wheelchair bound get back doing what he loved and what others loved to see him do. That is where this new documentary "Di'Annio: Iron Maiden's Lost Singer" come in.

Synopsis: Paul Di'Anno (aka The Beast), was neglected by healthcare workers in the U.K., wheelchair-bound Di'Anno leaves his home in the middle of the pandemic and travels to Croatia, where he rides an emotional rollercoaster, running out of money, reuniting with his former Maiden bandmates and falling in love -- all while his health makes a dramatic turn-around thanks to the goodwill of fans, doctors and nurses. Di'Anno makes a heroic, risky and drama-filled return to the stage as Metallica's James Hetfield and Gene Simmons of Kiss, as well as members of Slayer and Megadeth make appearances and testify to Di'Anno's importance and lasting impact.

This documentary really is an emotional journey of a man trying to recapture his health and his love for music. I found this to be a fascinating documentary. The film contains interviews with several members of the band, including Doug Sampson (drummer 1978-1979), Bob Sawyer (guitarist 1977), Terry Wapram (guitarist 1977-1978), Dennis Stratton (guitarist 1979-1980), and Blaze Bayley (singer 1994-1999).

Even if you are not a fan of heavy metal music, Paul Di'Anno or Iron Maiden this nice watch for nothing else but just to see a man's journey, to witness how he impacted lives with his music. Running just over 90 minutes it is a nice run time. It doesn't overstay it's welcome.

Cleopatra Entertainment has transferred this documentary to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented widescreen format and the audio is a LPCM 2.0. There is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

As this film is a newer production the quality is understandable good. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. Cleopatra Entertainment included some bonus features to this Blu-ray. Take a look at what has been included.

Bonus Features:
* Two Deleted Scenes
* Includes exclusive Slide Show of rare photos
* Trailers

Okay, admittedly this Blu-ray release is not for everyone. But for those heavy metal fans or fans of documentaries they will enjoy this release. The bonuses could be a bit better, but still all in all a nice little Blu-ray release.
