Cutter’s Way (1981) 4K UHD Review – A Gritty Neo-Noir Classic Gets a Stunning Upgrade

In 1976 Newton Thornburg wrote a novel entitled "Cutter and Bone". Just five years later that novel would be adapted and brought to the silver screen by Czech film director and screenwriter Ivan Passer.

Originally titled Cutter and Bone it was changed to Cutter's Way. Now 45 years after this film was released the film is seeing it's global 4K UHD debut, and it's all thanks to the good folks at Radiance Films.

Synopsis: The laid-back Californian gigolo Richard Bone (Jeff Bridges) finds himself suspected of murder when he happens to see the wrong thing at the wrong time: the body of a young girl being dumped into a garbage can. Bone's friend, the capricious and paranoid Vietnam veteran Cutter, (John Heard), begins to suspect a conspiracy behind the killing, with local oil tycoon J.J. Cord (Stephen Elliott) at its center. He persuades a reluctant Bone to try and take Cord down, leading to a sinister escalation of events that will change their lives forever.

Jeff Bridges and John Heard bring unforgettable performances to this film and the direction of Ivan Passer makes this neo-noir film into the classic for film fans. The screenplay really sucks you in is relentless to the end. And then stays with you long after the credits roll.

Radiance Films has transferred Cutter's Way to 4K UltraHD in 2160p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an Uncompressed mono audio. There is also the option for  English SDH subtitle track.
