When you think of gory horror films on of the first names that come to mind would be filmmaker Lucio Fulci. He has been called, the godfather of gore. He is responsible for such nightmares on film as City of the Living Dead, The House by the Cemetery, Zombi 2, and The New York Ripper.
In 1972 Fulci directed what many film fans consider his masterpiece Don't Torture a Duckling. Now 53 years after the film's release Arrow Video have given this film a deluxe 4K UltraHD release.
Synopsis: When the sleepy rural village of Accendura is rocked by a series of murders of young boys, the superstitious locals are quick to apportion blame, with the suspects including the local 'witch', Maciara (Florinda Bolkan, A Lizard in a Woman's Skin). With the bodies piling up and the community gripped by panic and a thirst for bloody vengeance, two outsiders - city journalist Andrea (Tomas Milian, The Four of the Apocalypse) and spoilt rich girl Patrizia (Barbara Bouchet, The Red Queen Kills Seven Times) - team up to crack the case. But before the mystery is solved, more blood will have been spilled, and not all of it belonging to innocents.
Lucio Fulci's Don't Torture a Duckling is still a shocking and brutal film over 50 years after it's initial release. With such themes as child murder, pedophilia and scandal of the Catholic Church. The film is a visually stunning experience. Even though the themes could be hard for some people to sit through. The story is well crafted and the acting is so believable. No wonder film fans consider this Fulci's best film.
