Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles: The Complete Series (Blu-ray Review)

The legendary studio Hanna-Barbera brought us many classic cartoons over the years. But the good folks at Warner Archive Collection have bene restoring and releasing these classic cartoons on Blu-ray. Recently we have seen such amazing Blu-rays as Top Cat The Complete Series, Wait till your Father get Home: The Complete Series, and The Jonny Quest Double Feature.

Now it is time for another classic cartoon release from Hanna-Barbera to receive the Blu-ray treatment. Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossible had been available on Made on Demand DVD, but it is time for a major upgrade as The Complete Series of Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles on Blu-ray!

Synopsis: FRANKENSTEIN JR. and THE IMPOSSIBLES is one half-hour packed with the kind of adventures of two of the most unusual, animated creations of the legendary Hanna-Barbera studio. Buzz Conroy is a heroic boy genius who builds the powerful robot Frankenstein Jr. When the Ghastly Genie, the Junk Man and other evildoers get up to their old tricks, "Frankie" and his young creator crank into action! The crimefighting coalition continues with THE IMPOSSIBLES, a group of superheroes disguised as a beatnik rock group. 
At the direction of "Big D", Multi Man, Coil Man and Fluid Man make hot rockin' musical justice thwarting thieves and corralling crooks with their transformative powers.

This Saturday Morning Cartoon ran from September 1966 to January 1967. There was a total of 18 episodes. The premises is absurd but totally fun. The classic Hanna-Barbera animation is on full display here and completely awesome. 

The voice actors are tremendous and include Dick Beals, John Stephenson, Paul Frees, Don Messick and most notably Ted Cassidy Lurch from TV's Addams Family and Hal Smith (Otis on the Andy Griffith Show).

All 18 Episodes are collected on 2 Blu-ray discs. That is 9 episodes per disc.

Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono. Finally there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. Now these transfers are not just any kind of transfer they are from newly remastered 4K scans from the original camera negatives of this series.

These episodes on Blu-ray are a humongous upgrade to the previous DVD release. These episodes look crisp and clean, the colors are bright and vibrant, and the audio is clear as a bell. But in addition to beautiful looking remastered episodes, Warner Archive ported over the wonderful little 5-minute featurette entitled Monster Rock: The Adventures of Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles

While Frankenstein Jr. and The Impossibles will not be on the top of anyone's list of favorite Hanna-Barbera cartoons, it is still a fun and entertaining little show. It really deserves to be preserved for posterity.
