Wait Till Your father gets home: The Complete Series Blu-ray Review

William Hanna and Joseph Barbera were the geniuses behind such cartoons as The Flintstones, The Jetsons, Scooby Doo Where Are You?, Wacky Races, and so much more. I have enjoyed watching Hanna-Barbera cartoons my entire life.

When I was just a kid, I remember seeing an episode of a Hanna-Barbera cartoons that was unique with a theme song that I never forget. That cartoon was Wait till your father gets Home.

Synopsis: The Age of Aquarius dawned. Harry Boyle forgot to set his alarm. Inspired by the era of live-action TV series such as All in The Family comes Hanna-Barbera's generation-gap animated comedy series Wait Till Your Father Gets Home. Tom Bosley provides the voice of Harry, an affable 40-something Everyman and suburban father of three whose daily routine is anything but when he faces the provocative questions of the make-love-not-war era. Women's Lib, civil rights, hippies, sexuality, communes and the Cold War are some of the hot button petals in this series' flower-powered laughfest. They're all part of Harry's world, where a man's home is his hassle.

When you think of Hanna-Barbera you think of wholesome family-friendly animation. Something like The Flintstones or The Jetsons, but Wait till your father gets home is an animated sitcom that is far from those two-family sitcoms.

You can tell that Wait till your father gets home was inspired by the Norman Lear comedies. As a huge fan of All in the Family, Sanford and Son, The Jeffersons, Maude and Good Times, this show really reminds me of those classics.

Now let's be honest this was a show made in the 70s and there is a lot of things portrayed in this series that audiences in this generation will no doubt find offensive. But there is no denying the quality of writing and the storytelling. If you enjoy the Norman Lear comedies, you will enjoy this animated sitcom.

In addition to the wonderful voice talents of Tom Bosley (happy Days) as Harry Boyle, Joan Gerber as his wife Irma and Jack Burns (Deputy Warren in The Andy Griffith Show) as Ralph Kane the flag waving ultra conservative next-door neighbor. There were many great g
uest voice actors included, Don Adams (Get Smart), Phyllis Diller (Mad Monster Party), Monty Hall (Let's Make A Deal), Don Knotts (Andy Griffth Show, Three's Company), Rich Little (Rich Little's Christmas Carol), Allan Melvin (All In The Family), Joe E. Ross (Car 54 Where Are You?), Isabel Sanford (Sanford and Son), Jonathan Winters (Mork an Mindy), Pat Morita (The Karate Kid).

This sitcom lasted 3 seasons a total of 48 fun-filled episodes. Warner Archive has spread these episodes across 6 Blu-ray discs.
The episodes of this series have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Warner Archive has done a nice job with these episodes. Now while I cannot say these episodes pristine, there are some grainy and soft aspects. This series still looks really good in HD on Blu-ray! It is defiantly an upgrade from the previous DVD release and anything you might find online.

On the Blu-ray insert it proudly proclaims the bonus feature of Retrospective Featurette: ANIMATION FOR THE NATION, ILLUSTRATING THE TIMES: How the show's artistic styles perfectly captured its era. Well, inless this is a hidden easter egg. This bonus feature is not found on any of these discs. That is a shame. I would have liked to see this featurette. Also it would Haven been nice to see the original pilot episode that aired on the TV series Love American Style included.

Even with these episodes are not pristine and even if the Blu-ray discs are missing bonus featurette. This is still a wonderful 6-disc Blu-ray set, filled with wonderful, animated entertainment.

Wait till your Father Gets Home is a 70s American TV time capsule. I wonderfully fun piece of television history and a series any fan of 70s sitcoms should see. I think you will be impressed with the stories, the writing and the quality.
