But she didn't just do comedy she spread her acting wings quite a bit to star in films like the disaster thriller The China Syndrome released in 1979. Now for the 45th anniversary of the films theatrical release, Sony Pictures have released this film on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: A modern nightmare nearly becomes reality in this tension-filled story about an "incident" at a nuclear power plant. Jane Fonda stars as Kimberly Wells, an ambitious TV reporter covering a story on energy sources, who is present at the nuclear plant when a startling accident occurs that nearly causes the meltdown of the reactor. A newsreel cameraman accompanying Wells (Michael Douglas) captures the incident on film but the television station won't air the footage. Though the plant's corporate heads are quick to deny the possibility of any real danger, Jack Godell (Jack Lemmon), the plant's veteran engineer, discovers faulty equipment at the plant. Attempting to tell others about his findings, an attempt is made on his life. In desperation, he forcibly takes control of the power plant and invites the media to hear his ceremony. But the corporation is determined to stop him in a taut and shocking climax!
The performances in The China Syndrome are amazing joining Jane Fonda is the great Jack Lemmon (The Apartment), Michael Douglas (Wall Street), Scott Brady (Shotgun Slade), James Hampton (Teen Wolf), Wilford Brimley (The Thing), Richard Herd (V The Mini-Series), Daniel Valdez (La Bamba), James Karen (Poltergeist). But this film is more than just a start studded film. it is a wonderfully crafted thriller. And way to real. I really feel this is such an important film that audiences in this generation need to see this film.
What makes this film so real is that in March 1979 the film received backlash from the nuclear power industry with claims of it the storyline is "sheer fiction" and a "character assassination of an entire industry". But than just a mere twelve days later, the Three Mile Island nuclear accident occurred in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. Proving that this was not fiction.
The China Syndrome has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and an English DTS-HD stereo. There is an option for English subtitles and English SDH.
This film transfer is really gorgeous. The picture quality is crisp and clean with no signs of damage to the print that I could see. The colors are bright and Jane Fonda's red hair shines perfectly on this transfer. The audio is clear as a bell with no hiss or pop, no audio anomalies are found.
Now a very nice-looking transfer is not all that this Blu-ray has going for it. There is some extremely cool bonus features included on this disc.
* Two Documentary featuring interviews with Jane Fonda and Micheal Douglas
-The China Syndrome: A Fusion of Talent
-The China Syndrome: A Fusion of Talent
- The China Syndrome: Creating a Controversy

The documentary features are extremely well produced and are wonderful additions to this release. I also love the addition of deleted scenes and the trailer. For me a beautiful looking transfer is must, but the bonus features are the icing and sprinkles on the cake! And Sony did not disappoint here!
