Kill Zone (1985) MVD Rewind Collection Blu-ray Review

action, MVD, Bluray, 4K, Retro, VHS,
When you think action in the 1980s you probably think Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, or Arnold Schwarzenegger. We probably don't think of David Campbell, Fritz Matthews and Ted Prior! But in 1985 they did star in a cult action adventure entitled Kill Zone.

MVD Rewind have been releasing some great cult titles on Blu-ray that movie fans will be salivating over. One of these releases we reviewed recently was the cult horror film Witchtrap featuring the retro VHS style release. Now it's time for Kill Zone to get the retro treatment.

Colonel Crawford (David Campbell, Killer Workout), the sadistic commander of an advanced military training center known as 'Scare Camp', has created the most grueling and realistic exercise imaginable; to him it is brilliant, to his me... deadly. To Vietnam War veteran Jason McKenna (Fritz Matthews, Deadly Prey) it becomes all too real. His ability to distinguish between flashbacks and the ongoing exercise slowly fades. Driven by emotional terror McKenna believes he must kill to survive. He escapes the simulated prison camp and begins his reign of terror; killing the unsuspecting residents of a nearby town. Now it is up to Colonel Crawford to stop him.

The Vietnam War was a controversial war to say the least. The Prior Brothers (Davis A. Prior and Ted Prior) decided to let this be the background of Kill Zone their second movie. Talk about guts! Kill Zone has a lot of similarities to Rambo or Missing In Action II: The Beginning (1985), but without the budget! Kill Zone is not a great action film, but its the kind of cheesy action film that cult movie fans just can't get enough of!

Now Kill Zone has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Featuring a scanned and restored 4K print from the 35mm interpositive. The audio is an English LPCM 2.0 Mono. There is also the option for English Subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now the 4K restoration looks pretty good. But in all honesty there is some nick and scratches that remain on the print even with the new restoration. But these imperfections are minor and will not impede the enjoyment of watching this release. So don't worry about the imperfections much.

With the absolute amazing amount of bonus features this makes this release 100% better. I love the new making of featurette. The mini-poster, oh yes! And for film fans who remember going to the video store and renting the VHS tape, the VHS Version of the film, that makes for such a cool bonus feature.

MVD is really putting the work into these releases and giving physical media and cult movie fans releases that they will relish in! MVD deserves a lot of credit for giving these films a chance to thrive on Blu-ray!

So if you love cheezy 80s action films Kill Zone will probably be one film you will want to see and owning it on Blu-ray from MVD Rewind Collection is the way I would recommend. With all the bonus features you cant go wrong.
