On March 10, 2023 the biopic entitled Southern Gospel was released in limited theaters. But don't worry if you missed it! Physical media fans can now own it, thanks to the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment! Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing faith based movies on DVD latest being; Lifemark, Unlikely Angel, Running the Bases, The Girl who believes in Miracles and Heaven Sent. Now it is time for the Southern Gospel to shine.
Samuel Allen (Max Ehrich, The Young and The Restless), a 1960’s rock and roller finds himself in jail. Years of anger and blame toward organized religion have led him down a road of rebellion. In a moment of divine intervention, a judge dismisses drug charges against him under the pretense that Samuel speaks to local schools and churches about the dangers of drugs. Given a second chance, he follows in his father’s footsteps, overcoming the influence of a powerful church leader with a personal vendetta against his family to become a preacher. Samuel’s desire to use his talents to share a message of forgiveness is challenged at every turn.
Southern Gospel is the biopic of Samuel Allen and his wife Julie who founded Dream Church. This is an emotional drama that was written and directed by recording artist Jeffery A. Smith. Now this is not your typical faith based film. This film is a little more gritty with some adult language and situations, drugs, violence and suicide. But sometimes the darker the beginning the great the story of redemption! Such is the case with this film!
The film has presented transferred to DVD in Widescreen format in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Of course the film is going to look spectacular because this is a 2023 film. So basically everything is shot in HD now and the film is transferred to DVD. The film transfer is extremely nice. The only downside for this DVD release is there is no bonus feature at all! I wish there would have been more but that is the only thing I have against this release.
