Over 10 years ago in 2012 Matthew Perry took the reigns of a new sitcom entitled Go On created by Scott Silveri (Joey) and aired on NBC. Now the complete series is getting a DVD release from the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment.
The series follows sportscaster Ryan King (Matthew Perry) who seems to be ready to push his feelings down and get back to work after taking some time to deal with the death of his wife. However, Ryan's boss (John Cho), preferring that Ryan work through his grief first, refuses to let him back on air until he gets counseling. Reluctantly, Ryan joins a support group, where his lack of interest in healing not only makes therapy interesting but also may just serve as the breath of fresh air needed to get his fellow group members back on track to health.
Go On was a very intelligent comedy series, with great character development. In addition to the talents of Matthew Perry there is a lot of recognizable faces in this series including; Julie White (How We Roll, NCIS: Hawai’i), Laura Benanti (Hulu’s Life & Beth, Max Originals Gossip Girl and The Gilded Age), Brett Gelman (Netflix series Stranger Things and Inside Job, Strays), John Cho (Apple TV’s The Afterparty and Star Trek Beyond), Suzy Nakamura (Netflix series Inside Job and Dead to Me and HBO Original Avenue), Sarah Baker (Netflix series The Kominsky Method, Young Sheldon, and Big Little Lies), Tyler James Williams (Emmy-winning (2022) Abbott Elementary series and known for his starring role in Everybody Hates Chris) and Piper Perabo (Yellowstone and Showtime’s Billions)
Go On is a fun series and I think it is reminiscent of fellow NBC sitcom Community which also received a physical media release from Mill Creek Entertainment on Blu-ray no less. You can read the review of that Blu-ray set here.
Now while community would last for 6 seasons, Go On would not fair as good. It would only last for 1 season of 22 episodes before the plug was pulled. I think that is a shame as it really was getting good as the series rolled on.
Mill Creek Entertainment has transferred the entire series (22 episodes) on 3 DVD Discs. Just over 8 hours on 3 DVDs. That is 7 episodes on the first 2 discs and 8 and the last one.
Disc One: Pilot | He Got Game, She Got Cats | There's No 'Ryan' In Team | Bench-Clearing Bawl | Do You Believe in Ghosts...Yes! | Big League Chew | Any Given Birthday
Disc Two: Videogame, Set, Match | Dinner Takes All |. Back, Back, Back... It's Gone | The World Ain't Over 'Till It's Over | Win at All Costas | Gooooaaaallll Doll! | Comeback Player of the Year
Disc Three: Pass Interference | Go Deep | Ring and a Miss | Double Down | Go for the Gold Watch | Matchup Problems | Fast Breakup | Urn-ed Run
Mill Creek Entertainment have transferred these episodes in their original widescreen format in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a Dolby Digital 5.1 and there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. That is always a nice bonus.
The transfer of these episodes to DVD look really good. These is no fading or problem with the colors of these prints and the there is no real pixilation. Mill Creek Entertainment did a fine job transferring them to DVD.
As for the DVD Menus there is the option to choose an episode you want to watch. Or you can binge all the episodes on the disc with the "Play All" option.
I enjoyed seeing this series. I think it is a shame it didn't get a chance at a second season. But I think it is so cool that Mill Creek Entertainment has given this series another chance to live on, on our TV screens on DVD.
So if you are a fan of Matthew Perry or 'intelligent" sitcoms, I highly recommend Go On on DVD for your collection. Head over to Amazon or Deep Discount and order your copy today.
Out of 4 TV Sets (4 being the best) Mill Creek Entertainment's DVD release of the Complete series of Go On receives..
