Now like many of Lovecraft's stories The Dunwich Horror was adapted into a motion picture in 1970. Arrow Video known for giving cult classics physical media releases. Dunwich Horror is the nest one to shine on Blu-ray.
Dr. Henry Armitage (Ed Begley) is an expert in the occult. He travels to the old Whateley manor in Dunwich looking for Nancy Wagner (Sandra Dee), a student who went missing the previous night. He and Elizabeth, a friend and classmate of Nancy's, are turned away by Wilbur (Dean Stockwell), the family's insidious heir, who has plans for the young girl. But Armitage won't be deterred. Through conversations with the locals, he soon unearths the Whateleys' deepest darkest secret.
The Dunwich Horror is not the best Lovecraft film adaption. Pretty much everyone will admit to that, but that doesn't mean it is a bad film or an unwatchable film. The acting is pretty good, Dean Stockwell (Quantum Leap) is the stands out for me. It is a pretty decent adaptation. The violence is a bit tame for a horror film, which is fine with me. But there is a fairly good amount of sexual content so, viewer beware if you are offended by that kind of content.
The Dunwich Horror has been transferred to Blu-ray thanks to Arrow Video. The film is presented in 1080p in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio Mono track. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
