7 Lesser known classic Christmas films

Christmas is a time for joy, songs, decorations, sweets and gifts. But I think my favorite things about the holidays is the movies. Some of the film that are so well known include, White Christmas, It's a Wonderful Life, Miracle on 34th Street and The Bishop's Wife.

But through the years there have been some really great holiday films, that for one reason or another have not become the Christmas movie staples. 

In this post we are counting down our 7 favorite lesser known Christmas films. Some of which you probably never saw before. Let's start the countdown.

7. Bell, Book and Candle (1958) Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak) is a witch living in 1950s New York City's Greenwich Village. One day she encounters publisher Shepherd Henderson (James Stewart), infatuated with him she decides to make him hers by casting a love spell. As a bonus Henderson is engaged to Gillian's old college rival (Janice Rule). There is one problem she will lose her powers if she falls in love.

6. Holiday Affair (1949)
Seasonal store clerk Steve Mason (Robert Mitchum) catches beautiful Connie Ennis (Janet Leigh) in a shopping scheme during the Christmas rush. When he discovers that she is a war widow and single mother, he decides not to turn her in. He thus is fired. Little did he know he would be part of a love triangle involving Carl Davis (Wendell Corey).

5. The Shop Around the Corner (1940)
Alfred Kralik (James Stewart) and Klara Novak (Margaret Sullavan) are employees at a general store. The two are constantly butting heads and disagreeing. But both are enamored of their pen pals, but little do they know, they are each the other's pen pal.

4. We're No Angels (1955)
Three prisoners Joseph (Humphrey Bogart), Albert (Aldo Ray) and Jules (Peter Ustinov) break out and hide in a shop run by kindhearted Felix (Leo G. Carroll), his wife Amelie (Joan Bennett) and their daughter. They plane to rob the store and board a ship the next day, but those plans change after they share Christmas dinner with the family. 

3. The Man Who Came to Dinner (1942)
While on a speaking tour a beloved, but arrogant radio personality Sheridan Whiteside (Monty Woolley) falls on a slippery steps of a prominent family. He becomes their houseguest and takes over the household. When a romance begins between Whiteside's assistant, Maggie Cutler (Bette Davis), and a local reporter, Bert Jefferson (Richard Travis) he tries to put an end to that before it starts.

2. The Lemon Drop Kid (1951)
Sidney Milburn is a con artist known by the moniker "The Lemon Drop Kid". He touts race track attendees. Little does he know he put gangster Moose Moran's girfriend off his bet, thus causing him to be out $10,000. Now Moran gives Sideny until Christmas to come up with the cash.

1. Pocketful of Miracles (1961)
Beggar Apple Annie (Bette Davis) learns that her daughter, escorted by an aristocratic suitor, plans to visit. There is one huge problem her daughter believes she is a wealthy socialite. Now Annie petitions a superstitious mobster (Glenn Ford), who thinks the apples she sells are lucky, for help.
