A Tribute to Betty White

Written by Jason Lockard

2021 has been an extremely bad year with Covid-19, Omicron variant, the coronavirus pandemic. Rising prices, supply shortages. High gas prices and low supplies. It has been a rough year, to say the least. But before we welcome in a new year, there was one more kick in the pants this last day of 2021. Today we heard that the legendary Betty White passed away.

Betty White to most people is Sue Ann Nivens on the CBS sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1973–1977) or Rose Nylund on the NBC sitcom The Golden Girls (1985–1992) or even Elka Ostrovsky on on her final TV sitcom Hot in Cleveland on TV Land (2010–2015).

Other people were introduced to Betty White via her multiple appearances on game shows. She appeared on Password, Match Game, Tattletales, To Tell the Truth, The Hollywood Squares, and The $25,000 Pyramid; thus she was dubbed "the first lady of game shows".

She was so good on the game shows, but probably for her the best part was meeting her soul mate host of Password Allen Ludden. They were married in 1963 and remained happily married to his death in 1983.

Long before she became known for all these appearances and shows, in the 1950s she had not one by two sitcoms. First "Life With Elizabeth" and "Date with the Angels". A few years ago Synergy Entertainment released a 6 Disc DVD Collection of 41 episode of these two sitcoms. You can read about this set by clicking on the DVD below.

Betty White is a an award winning actress. She received eight Emmy Awards, three American Comedy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a Grammy Award. She also was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and was a 1985 inductee to Television Hall of Fame.

What an amazing career she had. A career that spanned over eight decades. That is such am awesome accomplishment that she earned the record in Guinness World Record in 2018 for working longer in that medium than anyone else in the television industry.

As we look back at the life of Betty White we remember how much fun and laughter she brought the world. So the best we can say is in remembrance of her is a line from the theme song of The Golden Girls "Thank You for being a friend."

Rest In Peace
Betty White
