Best KL Studio Classics Blu-rays of 2021

Written by Jason Lockard

2021 has been quite an amazing year of releases. Kino Lorber's classic division KL Studio Classics have really been releasing some great Blu-rays.

This is a look back at our Top 10 favorite releases of this year. It is so difficult to choose just 10 releases as there has not been a bad release or even a less than stellar release. So let's take a look.

10. Cool As Ice: In the late 80s into the 90s Vanilla Ice was on fire on the music scene. He was so popular that he was given a chance to star in his own film. And thus Cool As Ice was released.

9. Bodyslam: I grew up on wrestling so I love films that are about that sport. Now the film Bodyslam follows a music promoter who ends up managing a wrestler played by Roddy Piper. This release made my month when it was released.

8. The Jetsons Movie: After the original and the additional series was finished in 1990 The Jetsons returned for a full length film and Kino Lorber released this amazing animated film on Blu-ray filled with some great bonus features.

7. Alias Jesse James: Bob Hope is a comedy legend! He made many different styles of comedies over his career including the old west. It was awesome to see Kino Lorber release a Blu-ray of this western comedy.

6. A Man Called Adam: Sammy Davis Jr. was more than just an amazing singer and a member of the famed Rat Pack. He was a pretty great actor. In this film Sammy starred as a musician struggling with addiction and social injustice.

5. Pufnstuf: Sid and Marty Krofft are known for their kids programs. One of them was H.R. Pufnstuf. But there was a full length feature film of Pufnstuf and I never thought we would see this on Blu-ray. Boy was I wrong and was I pleasantly surprised.

4. Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid: Steve Martin is on so many iconic comedy films over his career. He joined forces with the great Carl Reiner for one of the most unique film noirs I have ever seen. Than the bonus features make this release even better.

3. Spaceballs: As a huge fan of Star Wars I enjoy the spoof that was Mel Brooks Spaceballs. When Kino Lorber announced this film was getting and 4K/Blu-ray release I was ecstatic and seeing how great it looks with all the bonus features even better.

2. Kolchak The Night Stalker The Complete Series: After two amazing Made-for-TV movie Carl Kolchak a reporter who investigates the strange and weird such as vampires, werewolves and more went to series. And now it is on Blu-ray and what a Blu-ray it is!

1. The Night Gallery The Complete First Season: Rod Serling created on of the most iconic shows in history with The Twilight Zone but many forget his other show The Night Gallery. Maybe because it was destroyed by syndication. Now Kino Lorber has restored the first season to it's glory and released it on Blu-ray.
