Randolph Scott Collection {Mill Creek Entertainment Blu-ray Review}

George Randolph Scott was an Hollywood leading man who career
that spanned from 1928 to 1962. Scott during his career would appear in many different genres, including dramas, comedies, musicals, adventures, war, horror and fantasy films.

Now while Randolph Scott had a diverse library of films in his career, he is probably best known for his time in the saddle. Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have released an epic Blu-ray set featuring twelve western films on The Randolph Scott Collection. Let's take a look at the films collected in this set.

Disc One:
The Desperadoes (1943)
A wanted outlaw arrives in town to rob a bank that has already been held up! His past and his friendship with the sheriff land them both in trouble. ***

The Nevadan (1950)
A mysterious stranger crosses paths with an outlaw bank robber and a greedy rancher. ***

Disc Two:
Santa Fe (1951)
Three brothers become outlaws after the Civil War, while a fourth sibling goes to work for the railroad. ***

Man in the Saddle (1951)
A wounded rancher hides with a schoolmarm after his ex-girlfriend's husband runs him out of town. ***

Disc Three:
Hangman's Knot (1952)
A Confederate Major and his troops are falsely led to believe the Civil War is not over, and become wanted men after they attack a Union Army wagon train in Nevada. ***

The Stranger Wore a Gun (1953)
A spy turned bank robber decides in the middle of a big gold heist that he wants to reform and leave his life of robbery behind. ***

Disc Four:
A Lawless Street (1955)
Marshal Ware faces unpleasant facts about his past when he attempts to run a criminal gang out of town. ***

The Tall T (1957)
An independent former ranch foreman is kidnapped along with an heiress, who is being held for ransom by trio of ruthless outlaws. ****

Disc Five:
Decision At Sundown (1957)
Bart Allison and sidekick Sam arrive in the town of Sundown on the wedding day of town boss Tate Kimbrough, whom Allison blames for his wife's death years earlier. ****

Buchanan Rides Alone (1958) Texan Tom Buchanan is heading back home with enough money to start his own ranch, but when he stops in a crooked town, he's robbed and framed for murder. ****

Disc Six:
Ride Lonesome (1959)
A bounty hunter escorts a killer to be tried for murder, but allows the man's outlaw brother to catch up with them to have a showdown over a previous shocking murder. ****

Comanche Station (1960) A man saves a woman who had been kidnapped by Comanches, then struggles to get both of them home alive. ****

Joining the western legend Randolph Scott in this collection is a who's who of film and TV legends,
Glenn Ford, Forrest Tucker, Donna Reed, Lee Marvin, Angela Landsbury, Maureen O’Sullivan, John Carroll, Lee Van Cleef, Richard Boone, and Pernell Roberts.

Included in this set is 6 Blu-ray discs. That is 2 movies per disc. These films are presented in 1080p with the films presented in their original full screen and widescreen formats for the respective films. 

When watching these films on this Blu-ray set, I was thoroughly stunned at the video and audio quality. The colors are vibrant and the picture is crisp. Simply amazing!

Now as for special features, there are English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing and audio commentaries for many of these film. There is a booklet featuring poster art and a synopsis of all 12 films, and a special essay Columbia's Cowpoke by C. Courtney Joyner. But the best of the features is the Ballyhoo films documentary Randy rides Alone: Randolph Scott at Columbia.

In the final analysis this is one amazing set from Mill Creek Entertainment. They really went above and beyond here and made a set that I call a MUST OWN for western films fans. With over 16 hours of entertainment, fans will revisit this set over and over again.

  1. Yes, it's true. Although he'd done a series of classic films were served both as star and producer in a lavish career that spanned from 1928 thru 1962, Randolph Scott does it all. He also did TV appearances until 1987. He died in 1988 and people love his work everyday. There never gonna be another actor/producer quite like Randolph Scott. Ever.
