Dad / I'm not Rappaport {Blu-ray Review}

Jack LemmonReviewed By Jason Lockard

When you hear the names Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau most people probably think 1968's The Odd Couple or 1993's Grumpy Old Men movies. But these two actors were so much more. Many classic and iconic films came from these two men.

As a way to celebrate these icons of the cinema, the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have made available a double feature Blu-ray of two films starring these icons, Dad starring Jack Lemmon and I'm Not Rappaport starring Walter Matthau and Ozzie Davis. Let's take a look at this release.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend some time.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Dad (1989) After John's mom has a heart attack and ends in hospital. John flies home to take care of his dad, teaching him to do things around the house, spends time with him and shows him how to live again without mom's control.  ***

I'm Not Rappaport (1996) Two old men - a white former radical, and a black retired janitor - strike up an unusual and funny friendship on a park bench in New York, where they deal with family, drug dealers, and the pitfalls of age. ***

Both of these films explore real-life issues in an honest and open form. I found both of these films to be entertaining yet very thought-provoking. The acting of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau is on full display here. Even late in their careers, they are still amazing. But the supporting cast is just as impressive. We get Ozzie Davis, Ted Danson, Olympia Dukakis, Kathy Baker, Kevin Spacey, Ethan Hawke, Amy Irving, Craig T. Nelson and Martha Plimpton. And as for the screenplays and direction, very good stuff.

Now for the Blu-ray release. Each of these films are presented in widescreen format in 1.85:1 aspect ratio and in dts-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing which is always a nice little feature.

As for the transfers, these films look really nice in HD
and the audio is crisp and clean. These two films have been treated well on this release.

Lemmon and Walter Matthau treat yourself to this Blu-ray release!  Head over to MillCreekEnt.com or Amazon.com and order your copy today!
