Starsky and Hutch Season 1 {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

On TV cop shows were more or less tame. Most of the time you had your Dragnet, Federal Men, The Untouchable ect. These shows showed little violence if any at all! Than a ABC movie of the week changed that with Starsky and Hutch, which would than launch into a weekly TV series.

Mill Creek Entertainment released not only the 1st season, but also the complete series on DVD. These include the 70-minute pilot movie.

The series followed Southern California police detectives: David Michael Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Kenneth "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul) as they fought crime and cruised the streets in Starsky’s two-door Ford Gran Torino. The supporting cast in this series is amazing highlighted by Huggy Bear a street-wise, jive-talking confidential informant played by Antonio Fargas.

Some of the best episodes in season one include; The fix: In this episode Hutch is dating a former mob girl. Hutch is abducted by the jealous mobster, who forcibly gets him hooked on heroin. Starsky must come to the rescue before it’s to late. The shootout: Starsky and Hutch decide to unwind at an Italian restaurant. Suddenly the restaurant is taken over by two syndicate hitmen planning to take out a Mob boss when he arrives for dinner. A coffin for Starsky: A masked assassin breaks into Starsky’s apartment in the middle of the night, and injects him with a deadly poison. Starksy has less than 24 hours to live unless Hutch and himself can find the antidote in time.

The series is dramatic with little hints of fun. It has so much action it will have you on the edge of your seat during the chase scenes. There is no time to get bored with this series.

The first season DVD collection contains the pilot movie and all 22 of the season one episodes. Each episode is presented in it original full screen format. They all look and sound absolutely stunning. The DVD menus are easy to access. It’s a must have for any 70s cop show fan.

So if you love those hip and funky cop show of the 70s, there is no better way to take a blast from the past with Starsky and Hutch season 1 or The Complete Series on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment.
