One Eyed Soldiers (1967) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By: Jason Lockard

When James Bond first hit the big screen it took the world by storm, it was inevitable that their would be imitators. Many spy films were made all over the world trying to capture some of that James Bond attention. One such spy film was "One Eyed Soldiers". The good folks from Alpha Video has released this film on DVD.

After Dr. Charles Berens falls to his death from a church tower. His final words were "One eyed Soldiers". His daughter Gava believes it is a clue to hidden Nazi treasure. She enlists the help of Richard Owens is a U.S. newsman who is in Yugoslavia help find treasure. But this won't be as easy as all that. For the treasure is also the focus of an international criminal "The Fat Man". Who will get to the treasure first? You'll have to see the film to find out!

The film can boast of the lead actress Luciana Paluzzi who played assassin Fiona Volpe in the fourth James Bond film, Thunderball. While Dale Robertson is a passable lead his is not as spectacular as I had hoped. The cinematography is really nice. Taking you right in the front seat for the chase scenes and all the action. The story is good, but there is no real interesting plot twists. It is a
predictable spy film, but that doesn't mean you can't get some enjoyment of of it! This is a real cool snapshot into the 60s.

As for the DVD itself. The film presented on this DVD is in wide-screen format and looks and sound good for an 1960s film made in Yugoslavia. There is some minor imperfections in the picture and sound. As for bonus features. There are none, but for fans of 60s spy films a nice copy of this film on DVD will be enough to add this to their collection.

So if your a fan of James Bond, spy films, thrillers, or 60's cinema, this maybe the type of film that will be right up your alley. Head over to Oldies.com and get a copy for yourself today.
