Born Free The Complete Collection (1965-1996) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By: Jason Lockard

In 1960, Born Free was published. It was a book written by Joy Adamson, and is about she and her husband George's adventures raising an orphaned lion cub named Elsa and then releasing her back into the wild. It was a worldwide bestseller and spawned two original movies, a TV series and a 30 year anniversary made-for-tv movie.

The great folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing some amazing entertainment. Now they are bringing us all of the Born Free movies and the TV series in a big collection so that fans can relive the experience and new viewers can enjoy the dramatic goodness.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Born Free (1966) The story of George and Joy Adamson and the orphaned lion cub, Elsa, they adopt and raise. ***

Living Free (1972) Elsa's three mischievous cubs begin wreaking havoc on the nearby villages. Joy and her husband are forced to move them to game preserve. ***

Born Free: The Series (1974) The adventures of married game wardens in Kenya. The short lived television series includes 13 episodes. ***

Born Free – A New Adventure (1996) Another thrilling adventure for Elsa the lioness as she works her magic on two teenagers struggling with changes in their life. **

The original movies were amazing dramatic adventures and the TV series was great as well. The reason the series didn't get the ratings hoped for was because it was put in competition with hit TV shows The Rookies and Gunsmoke. That is going to be hard for any new show to beat out.

The cinematography of this whole collection is amazing. Getting to see the beautiful scenery and the wildlife is just breathtaking. The acting in each of the movies and TV series is tremendous. Even though with each movie and the series lead actors are replaced with new ones. The stories are heartwarming and well adapted.

This 4 disc DVD set includes all of the movies and the TV series presented in full screen format and are housed on 4 DVDs and the look and sound awesome. This is an absolute tremendous collection. Mill Creek Entertainment really knows how to give the buyer a lot of bang for their buck! I can not recommend this collection enough for families to sit down together and enjoy these adventures.

So if your a fan of the Born Free book, wildlife or just good family adventures, I highly suggest The Born Free Collection. Head over to MillCreekEnt.com today and get your copy before they are gone!
