Euro-Western Double Feature (1968-1970) {DVD Review}

]Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

What was "Spaghetti westerns"? It was a term used to describe a movie about the American Old West made cheaply in Europe, typically by an Italian producer and director. One such series of movies was about a bounty hunter Sartana.

Alpha Video has released a double feature of Sartana on DVD. Lets take a look at the films included on this DVD and the quality of the prints of the films included in this collection.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

If You Meet Sartana... Pray for Your Death (1968) Crooked bankers plan an insurance swindle and hire a Mexican gang to steal the bank's gold but they also pay Lasky's gang to kill the Mexicans. ***

Sartana's Here... Trade Your Pistol for a Coffin (1970) Sartana,
bounty hunter and gunfighter is hired to protect the next gold shipment. But Sartana's nemesis Sabbath rides into town with a showdown in mind. ***

These two films are action packed and the stories are compelling that acting is good. These are English dubbed films so you do not have to read the subtitle, but the dialog is not going to match the mouths of the actors! So do note that! But what do you expect?

One thing that is a bit of a downer is in the first film in this double feature, Sartana is played by Gianni Garko and than in the second by George Hilton. It would have been nice to see the same actor but that is a minor complaint.

The audio and video quality of these films are good there is some minor imperfections in the picture, but what do you expect from films that are a half a century old! I am surprised they look as good as they do!

I really enjoyed this double feature DVD. So if you love visiting the old west with classic films I suggest you pick up a copy of Sartana double feature. You won't regret it! Head over to Oldies.com and get your copy today!
