Hawkeye And The Last of The Mohicans Volume 9 {DVD Review}

Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

James Fenimore Cooper brought us the novel 'The last of the Mohicans'. It captured the imagination of the readers and it was no doubt just a matter of time before it was brought to series on the small screen.

In 1957 Hawkeye and the last of the Mohicans took to the air. It starred John Hart as Hawkeye and the great Lon Chaney Jr. as his blood brother Chingachgook, the last of the Mohicans. This action packed series brought us many memorable episodes, but sadly this series would only last one season and bring us 39 episodes.

I am so glad to say that Alpha Video has been keeping this TV series alive by releasing it on DVD in Volume format. The next release Volume 9 is now available at Oldies.com. Lets take a look at what is included in this volume.

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend a half an hour.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

The Royal Grant
: A English nobleman is forcibly removing settlers, believing he was bequeathed the land by King George. ***

The Servant
: A poor Irish girl is being held as a slave by a brutal frontiersman. ***

The Truant
: Hawkeye and Chingachgook must protect a young boy from an greedy uncle who wants his inheritance. ***

The Witch: The death of a young girl is blamed on witchcraft. ****

The acting, stories and action in these episodes are amazing and Lon Chaney Jr. is a standout as always. He is so ultra believable as
Chingachgook. I love Lon Chaney Jr. in anything he did but this is right up there with his best roles. The audio and video quality of the episodes in this release are really clear and would make a great addition to any western collection.

So if you love TV westerns, Lon Chaney Jr. or good action stories this is the collection for you. Head over to Oldies.com and pick up your copy today.
