Getting Gotti (1994) {DVD Review}

Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

Docudramas were all the rage in the 90s. And in 1994 CBS debuted one entitled 'Getting Gotti' following the life of "The Teflon Don" John Gotti. Now the great folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have given us Mafia movie fans our chance to own this TV movie on DVD.

This film is based on true events and follows Diane Giacalone (Lorraine Bracco) a new assistant district attorney. She grew up in the neighborhood with John Gotti (Anthony Denison)! But she has had enough and has made it her mission to prosecute Mafia boss John Gotti and the Gambino crime family. Even when FBI agents and bureaucrats won't help she doubles her efforts to bring the "Dapper Don" to trial.

This was a made for TV movie and you can tell the budget was for a TV movie. The film was rated R for the violence, nothing else. And the violence was very tame by today's standards. So that was a little strange, but it was a different time.

As far as the acting goes. I think the actors did a good job portraying the characters in the film. None was over the top or too blahsay. It was just a good cast. The story was a little slow is spots, but was still interesting enough to keep your interest! So I enjoyed the film myself!

The audio and video quality of the film on this DVD was really good! They were some minor imperfections but that comes from being an older TV production! So that is not a huge deal!

All in all I am glad to add this TV movie to my gangster DVD and Blu-ray section in my enormous movie collection! It deserves a place right along side The Wiseguys, Hollywood vs The Mob and Gangster Empire other Mill Creek releases.

So if your a fan of biopics or gangster/mafia films this is one that should be apart of your collection too! Head over to www.MillCreekEnt.com or your local DVD provider and pick up Getting Gotti on DVD today.
