While we're currently living in a superhero TV show boom! But in the late 1990's there was a mini superhero boom if you will! We had Lois and Clark the new Adventures of Superman, The Flash, Superboy, Swamp Thing, M.A.N.T.I.S., The Crow:Stairway to Heaven and others. One of those superhero TV series was Night Man. Now over 20 years later fans are getting a DVD release! It's about time!
Some people call this a 'Marvel' TV series! While I understand that the character is property of Marvel this character was created by writer Steve Englehart for the now defunct publisher Malibu, which Marvel acquired in 1994, prior to the TV show’s release in 1997. So really it is not truly a Marvel character! But I digress.
The series follows Johnny Domino, a well known San Francisco Jazz saxophonist. While riding on a cable car a freak lightning strike which hits the car gives him the ability to telepathically recognize evil, but in turn robs him of the ability to sleep. He uses this ability and a special bulletproof bodysuit that gives him several abilities, including flight, holographic camouflage-style invisibility and advanced sight functions through the round red lens over his left eye including the ability to see in the dark and fire a laser beam. He uses these to fights crime.
Night Man only lasted two seasons a total of 44 episodes! This was long before CGI become what it was so the special effect are not overly spectacular, but I am a fan of more practical effects myself! There were a lot of special guest stars in this series including, Patrick Macnee, Little Richard, Jerry Springer, and even Donald Trump.
This DVD set includes all 44 episodes on 9 discs. The artwork looks really cool! It is a good addition to anyone's superhero collection! Just don't expect the multi-million dollar production values we see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
