Dracula Has Risen from the Grave (Warner Blu-ray Review)

When I think of Dracula on film, two names come to mind: Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. There are no greater performances of this iconic character than the ones that these men put on film. Of course, Christopher Lee would play the Lord of the Undead many more times than Lugosi. Lee would don the cape and sport the fangs ten times.

In 1969, Dracula Has Risen from the Grave was released in theaters.  A couple of years ago, Warner Brothers released this film on Blu-ray. But in case you missed your chance to own this film on Blu-ray years ago, no worries. Warner has now reissued this Blu-ray so that we can enjoy it for Halloween 2026.

Synopsis: Playing Bram Stoker's infamous vampire for the third time, Christopher Lee goes fang-to-cross with the forces of good in this atmospheric, stylish film, in which each night brings the threat of death.

Okay, no one is going to consider this film on a par with the first Hammer Horror Dracula film starring Christopher Lee "Horror of Dracula", but it is still a wildly entertaining horror film. While the film is rated G, don't be fooled; this is not for general audiences. But it is tame compared to horror films in this generation. All in all this is a nice watch, especially because of Christopher Lee.

Warner Brothers has transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.66:1 aspect ratio. There are audio options for an English DTS-HD Master Audio 1.0, French or Spanish track in Dolby Digital 1.0. There are also subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

The picture quality of this transfer is pretty impressive. The colors are bright and vibrant and the flesh tones are correct. There is no damage to this print that I could see while screening this film. There are no digital artifacts or audio anomalies on this Blu-ray. This is a tremendous upgrade to the previous DVD release.

Now, as for bonus features. Well, this is where this release falls short. There are no bonuses. There is no audio commentary, featurettes, interviews, nothing. This is a huge misstep by Warner Bros. Physical media fans ove there bonus features, and with none to show here, it is disappointing.

Even though there are no bonus features, a wonderful-looking transfer is still worth adding to your home video library. If you would like to add this film to your collection, head over to MovieZyng or Amazon and order your copy today.
